I have this problem too.
What I try and do is to set small manageable goals - like break my work into bite sized pieces that I know are achievable.
I promise myself a small reward for when I have done each step.
eg
1.Read material for an assignment
Once done; have a snack break with something yummy, but limit time to 15 minutes.
2. Write out ideas for the assignment, or an outline/plan.
Once done; telephone a friend for a chat, limit 15 minutes.
3. Write the introduction
After that I am finished for the night and can watch tv or play on the computer.
but I will make sure that the next day I do a little bit more work on it.
Another thing you could do is to set up a regular homework time. so maybe if you get home at 4, then chill till 5, then have homework time 5:00 - 6:00 each school day, and STICK to it!
the other thing to bear in mind is that a lot of procrastination is caused by fear, or by wanting it to be so perfect, that you are too scared to start.
just remember, it doesn't have to be perfect, you just have to put some effort in and get it done.
Good luck

I had the same problem. I found often it was best to take my notepad and go for a long walk into th country, I took only my iPod as I found music a good aid to concentration (generally something fairly calm, so you dont focus to much on it). I found then I could work so much better without the constant temptations that home offered.
That or leave it all until about 12am the night before and work until 4/5am. I have done it too many times. Just make sure you have alot of coffee in the morning,

Just do it!! No playing or socializing until it is done... Unplug your computer and hide the power cord, turn off the ringer and tell your friends that your parents said not to call until after dinner, as for music... the soul needs constant soothing so you can use that vice as long as it is not distracting you to want to be on the phone or on the computer downloading or discussing the new tune and how your going to get jiggy wit it... Just maybe your grades will increase and you won't have to cram so hard for your final exams cause your retaining ability has increased and logged everything into your long term memory. Give it a try for a week and see what happens... I'm sure your social life won't suffer too much!

I am a procrastinator, I actually just graduated from college and I procrastinated more then I'd like to admit!
My suggestion is stay after school and go to the library, get all your homework done before you go home. You will probably get it done quicker without the distractions and then you have the rest your day to yourself!
If you can't stay at school then just try to do it 1st thing when you get home. It's hard to make yourself do it but you'll enjoy not worrying about it for the rest of your night.
Goodluck!

I had the same problem. What I do is I don't let myself go near the computer or music until I have a significant amount of my homework done. It works every time for me. All my homework is done at this moment =D

to make a short story long, i had to do everything by using my eyes, so when i saw others could do what i wanted to do i would model my behavior to pattern my interpretations of what i thought that did to achieve what i couldn't so when i worked at it i never failed much because i was always aware of who could accomplish what was in the least amount of complications, so when studying i would be engrossed in some book that i was in love with to further my tweaking of perceptions to correct my inattentive of things that weren't interesting, i had all my energy stored somewhere in my procrastinations and only there could i know i was me and would smile cause i knew i was getting away with being happy a little longer

Turn everything that distracts you, OFF. Do your work right when you get home. Act like your teacher really is there and watching what you're doing.

Setup a specific time for homework and a space, seperate from the rest of the house. If you have an isolated space and a specific time, it will help you focus.

put yourself on probation at home and get your parents to help you out. no "treats" until after homework is done or no computer for a week. make a promise to yourself and reward yourself for keeping that promise. maybe your parents can give you some sort of incentive?
