Some CD players read "Computer CD ROMs" that only contain music encoded in .wav format.
.wav is like mp3s, but with a different "quality vs. compression" combination. .wav is the standard codec of decompressed audio format used in regular CD players. That's why it is named along with CD/CD-R/CD-RW/etc

A wav file is a standard audio format that can be played on a cd player or your computer. If you have such a file, you can play this with windows media player, winamp etc.
A wav file is larger than an mp3 file because it is not compressed.

WAV is a type of audio file that is played on Windows PC's. It cannot be played in most car or home stereo systems.
If you have a windows pc, just put the CD in your cd-rom drive, open it up in explorer. If you see a file like "music.wav", just double-click on it. Windows Media Player will play it.

A "WAV file" is simply an uncompressed audio file. It is the standard formatting for audio CD's. You may have heard of MP3's, which are compressed audio files.

WAV format is one of the orignal audio formats. Usually pronounced "wave", as in "wave file", it is an uncompressed (usually) digitization of the audio.
Most programs should be able to export and import from .WAV files.
