NO it doesnt but they say you have to. ive played it on a regular tv that was like 10 years old.

NO, it doesn't need to be played on an HDTV. The Wii wasn't built for HDTV. It's built for regular TV. If you use component cables on an HDTV, you'll get 480p instead of 480i. Think of 480p as EDTV. It looks better than SDTV, but there's not that much of an improvement.

No the wii does not support high definition gameplay. Though you can buy a something special cable that helps smooth down the graphics.

all that matters is if you have cable because the whole chanle thing will be screwed up then. old tvs are fine
