I want to make a vga to component cable, to connect my computer to my tv.

If you have made cables before, then go for it. It's quite simple. You are going from a 5 wire VGA cable to a 3 wire component cable. Horizontal and vertical sync are on green. Wiring diagrams can be googled.

If you haven't made a cable before, then you are better off buying a video card that supports it. Most ATI video cards with DVI-out support component.

What video card do you have? Best way is to look at the manufacturer's site to see if they sell component adapters. But, I have never seen any manufacturer support a VGA to component adapter though.
