Go to the router makers web site. They usually have all the software and documentation you need. For example: If you have a linksys router, it would be www.linksys.com. Netgear: www.netgear.com. etc.

Start menu > control panel > network and internet connections > right click the icon that shows your wireless connection. (alternatively, you can just right click on the icon of your wireless connection icon in the system tray)

Anyway, click properties of the icon for your wireless connection. A window will appear, with 3 tabs.

Click the wireless networks tab.
Click properties.
You will see another 3 tabs at the top.
Click the "Association" tab
Put as such:

Network Authentication : Open
Data encryption: WEP
Network key: choose a pwd; 8 numbers
Key index (advanced): 1

Then, click the "Authentication" tab @ the top

Uncheck the [Enable IEEE 802.1x…] box

Click [OK] to close the properties window.
***********

That said, I'd advice against you using a WEP key. They're easily crackable using online tools, I'd suggest you use a WPA key instead.

However... I'm not really sure about WPA can someone else enlighten me on this as well?

Read your router's docs. If you lost them, download them from the manufacturer's website.

NEVER use one of the pre-configured WEP or WPA keys! They are well known and easy to bypass.

Use WPA if it's supported by your wireless. If not, check for an updated firmware for your router that supports WPA.

WEP is crackable, though you need some advanced knowledge to do it. WPA is uncrackable with today's technology.

Do you still have the system administrator password. Go to your router http://192.168.1.1 and go throught the menues. There should be a security tab (or something like that) and you can select which security type you want.
