I wish I knew! Maybe it's important to people that sex remain more of a mystery, but letting children (particularly) see the violence in movies, TV shows, even cartoons makes no sense to me at all. I don't know why mindless violence sells so well either, I'm not saying we should censor it, I just don't see the attraction. Sorry I'm not more help............

Because Americans are schizophrenic about sex. It is used to sell everything from beer to video games to potato chips, but goodness forbid we show two people making love. For example, I pay for my cable, why is is that I can't get a movie or TV show at 10 pm (when your kids should be asleep anyway) that has some adult content without going to pay per view?
But to try and answer you question a little more closely, I think it comes from the fact that for most of our history our country was an agrarian society, and while you needed lots of kids (and therefore sex) you also had to control the sex for land distribution and social reasons. For example, an unwed mother just added another hungry mouth to feed, but a wedded woman either moved off with her husband or another strong back was added to her family. In a society with limited resources, this was the way it had to be.
But the violence, well that was an aspect of everyday life. Violence was necessary to keep the rabble in line, enforce the social contract, and keep the sexual rules descibed above in force (shotgun weddings, ect). Since there was no way to hide the violence, it was just accepted, and we became used to it.

you have a good point, but i think its because sometimes when people see blood, the like.. pass out or throw up or something. i mean, if it were me, i woulndt want people puking and passing out all over while they watch my movie. theres aways the unsencored versions... and sex is cencored because of kids. have you read the article about mental age speeding up? pretty creepy. and it al has to do with that type of thing.

Not necesseraly, actually Sex itself is censored but sexual behavior is not. Look at most shows and the sexual scenes they show, for all to see. Maybe that explains why girls are dressing more provocative at an earlier age.
