We have a Belkin wireless adapter, and my son showed me tonight that my next door neighbors was listed as sharing a connection with ours. What should I do to REMOVE them? Should I be worried about security issues?

Yes, because anything they might send or do will appear as if it's coming from you.

The best way to block access is via the MAC address.
This is a set of six hexadecimal numbers (Such as "06-00-0E-D4-98-CD") which is unique to each and every network adapter (network card or wireless adapter) in the world.

See which one(s) you are using. Filter by MAC address and allow only yours and deny all others.

Beats passwords and all that by a mile.

P.S. Might want to change your default wireless channel also (usually 12).
Even if he's not on your network - being on the same channel can slow you down. There are 3-4 channels available.

If he's using your connection you should first encrypt it,
and then kick him in the ***. Or the other way round.

Your manual should explain in detail how to encrypt
the connection between your computers and the router.
Unencrypted connections do cause various security
issues. If you have the choice between WEP, WPA
and WPA2 use the last one available in this list.

Edit: Cityboy might be right. Is he connecting to your
network or is he showing up in your wireless neighborhood?
The latter is nothing to worry about since it's just a list
of networks within communication range. That aside
your network should be encrypted. Wether someone's
using it or not.

Enable encryption on your wireless. WPA is preferable to WEP but WEP is better than nothing. Read your router's docs for how to set this up.

Yes, you should be concerned about security! Without encryption, anyone can access your connection and potentially view the data that you are sending and receiving on the 'net.

I wouldn't be alarmed, their network shows up on your "available wireless networks" because you are within range of it. Don't connect to it though (even if you can) because you don't know what kind of security they have, and you don't want to be vulnerable for them to access your computer. There is a way to remove them if you go to the wireless properties and highlight it and click the remove button.
