5. Which of the following is not an intrinsic property of an object? a. mass, b. moment of inertia, c. center of mass, d. center of gravity.

6. The dependence of equilibrium on the absence of net torque is: a. the first condition of equilibrium, b. the second conndition of equilibrium, c. rotational equilibrium, d. translational equilibrium.

7. According the Newton's second law, the angular acceleration experienced by an object is directly proportional to which of the following? a. the object's moment of inertia, b. the net applied force, c. the size of the object, d. the mass of the object.

3. (B). For a given force, the highest torque is generated by applying that force the furthest from the axis of rotation

5. Odd question. (B), (C) and (D) are all dependent on the mass AND the shape of the object; (A) is only dependent upon its composition. (A) is the oddball in the list, but it IS an intrinsic property.

6. Dependence of equilibrium on the absence of net torque is the definition of (C) rotational equilibrium.

7. (A) moment of inertia. The other answers in the list are incomplete for a question dealing with rotation; i.e. applied force is of no consequence to rotation if it is applied through the center of mass, and the size and mass of the object work together to define moment of inertia, not independently as stated in the list of answers.

The first one is b. Think about using a wrench. The longer the handle is, the easier it is to use. That's because you get more torque when you exert force on the wrench further from the axis.

The second one is b. The moment of inertia of an object is dependent on its motion and is therefore not an intrinsic property.

I think the third one is either a or b. A statement that equilibrium depends on something is the same as a condition of equilibrium.

The fourth one references Newton's Second Law, F=ma, so the only conclusion that can be drawm from it is that the acceleration is directly proportional to the force. That's b.
