You should ice it immediately to keep the swelling down. Also ice will take away the pain. I had a badly sprained ankle that I made stonger by doing lots of calf raises. I strengthened my ankle and inrcreased my vertical leap by 6 inches.

You don't have to cut out all activity, but you do have to take care of the injury. If you are 1 month post and you still get pain when stressing the joint, you don't need to be overly concerned. To be honest with you, the ligament you sprained (probably the anterior talofibular)will take upwards of 8 months to totally heal. That is not to say that you will feel discomfort the whole time, but the process will continue till it is complete. Some over the counter anti-inflammatries (advil, ibuprofen, naproxin, etc.) may help with pain and swelling in the meantime. Stick with the ice post activity also. Good luck.

you are completely crazy to keep on jumping 4 weeks after a strain. just avoid any sort of effort or tension on your ankle and have massage done around the strain not on the strain... blood circulation will increase and oxygenation will help the healing
