Yes - not a lot of jobs, and the competition for the existing ones is tough. On top of that pay is not always the best, and once you go through an arch program (5-6 years), then you are still not yet an "architect", you have to work several years toward your licensing - at the right type of job (keep in mind it is competitive to get them).
On the other hand, if architecture is your passion - I'm sure you will find a way to make it all work out despite these things...

It is true- there are the jobs, but there are too many people. Architechture has become fashionable at Uni, and therefore the market is flooded with graduates.
The area of project managing though is crying out for people, and more often Project/cost managers are the ones with the power on how a building will really end up. I am a trainee Quanity Surveyor (cost manager) in UK, and i draft cad drawings for an architect. You dont have qs's in the US, but it is growing, with Uk firms such as Cyril Sweett, EC Harris etc all opening offices in the USat the mo, its a maasive growth area there. Look at their websites.
If you do architecture, you will usuaully end up in a technicians role, whereas if you go project managment then you are at the initial design meetings and actually approve whats gonna go ahead so its more involved.
Good luck.

I would suggest going into business for yourself and watch your work grow.
