Is it a normal speaker line out or a USB?
Are u sure the sound card of your computer work? Go the control panel> system> hardware and check if there is a sound card. Then check the volume. Otherwise, it may be the problem of your speaker.

u just need to install the driver for the sound card. first check if it is built in sound card or pci card. open the case of your computer and see if u have a pci sound card if it exist then read the name on it and the number and search for a driver on the internet. if u dont have a pci sound card then u have built in and u need the type of the motherboard and u can read the name and number of the motherboard (u will find it somewhere in the middle) and go the website of the motherboard and download the driver.

Most likely because after you reformatted and installed windows, you did not install any of the necessary drivers. Visit the website of the manufacturer of your computer, and download all the drivers for your model computer. Install them, and you should have sound (as well as better video, I'd imagine)

try this first.
click on start, then control panel (if you're on XP) or settings then control panel (if you're on win98 or win2000).
look for an icon called administrative tools (on XP) then computer management, or device manager (on win98 or 2k).
on XP, on the left you'll see a bunch of icons. click on Device Manager and you'll see more icons appear on the right.
click on action, scan for hardware changes. if it finds a new device, it'll install it if the drivers are in your computer.
If you're on 98 or 2000, I believe you have the same options under actions.
if the drivers are not found, you'll have to seek for the drivers. best thing to do is go to the manufactures website.
if your computer is a brand name computer (like a dell or compaq) try looking for the model number of your computer. go to their website and look for the drivers and download it and install it.
good luck.
