Hitler and the Nazi Party decided to kill all the Jews in Europe and they almost did. This is called the Holocaust. Hitler was basically insane on the issue of the Jews. He believed they started World War I and were responsible for the inflation and depression and the German defeat in World War I and eventually for everything bad in Germany and the world. The Nazis were able to kill so many Jews because they had taken over most of Europe and because so many people in so many countries had prejudice against Jews for centuries. But Hitler's prejudice was new in the sense that he and his followers said that Jews were not human. They were automatically bad because they came from an "evil" race and wanted to control the world and destroy Christians. However, Hitler didn't invent any of these ideas. Other people in Germany and Europe believed a lot of them too.

The Holocaust was basically a mass murder of a race, otherwise known as a genocide. Adolf Hitler became the dictator of Germany right after the Depression. The Germans thought he could help restore their economy. He convinced them that the Jews were to blame for Germany's lose in World War I, and that the Aryans, or native Germans, were superior to all races. He and his Nazi party came up with plan to kill off all of the Jews. They set up concentration camps all over Eastern Europe, rounded up all the Jews, and shipped them out to these "death camps". When the Jews arrived, they were stripped of their clothes and their heads were shaved. They were separated into groups according to gender and age. The young, sick, and old were immediately sent to gas chambers, rooms filled with poisonous gases. The bodies were burned in huge furnesses. The remaining Jews were worked to death or used for perverse medical experiments. Auschwitz, Sobibor, and Treblinka are some of the most notorious concentration camps. Any rebels were killed immediately. Over six million Jews were killed in the Holocaust. The immensity and inhumanity of the Holocaust are unequaled in history.

well...I personally think it was about an extreme leader going absolutely mad. Hitler's regime was based on eugenic theories. This meant he tried to clean his people of any racial or genetic "imperfections" : people with disabilities were being sterilised, jews and gypsies were being mass murdered. To put it in a nutshell :) But check it out for yourself. It's really interesting.
It was all about a quite modern trend of being very afraid that the minority is taking over...
