What are some good things to put in the tank

1. It should be big- aim for at least 10 gallons of water per inch of turtle, and since they hit 4" soon, many people use a 20 gallon tank for the babies (1/2 filled to make 10 gallons), then have a 60-80 gallon tank ready for the 4" stage. (FYI- glass walls are more stressful to the turtle than opaque walls are, like a Rubbermaid-style tub offers.)

2. It should be heated to 75-80, and filtered at least 2-3 times more than a fish tank would be.

3. It needs lighting that simulates summer-like sunlight with UV-B elements.

4. Good basking sites that are secure, dry, not damaging to the shell, and heated from overhead to 90.

After that, you need to balance the desire for good looks with the need for simple and easy to clean. A potted semi-aquatic plant is a nice touch.
