Did MI5/MI6 murder Alexander Litvinenko to give the British Government political advantage over the Russians?

There are a lot of energy deals that need negotiating and this may help in getting better deals.

The British Government can now negotiate from a position of strength and the Russians will be eager to please. (Just make sure if the British Authorities did do it the truth never emerges)

Not likely ay all. BP and others have invested more than 10 Billion
in Russian oil and gas. Putin could easily re-nationalize the energy market. Doesn't look like a position of strength for the UK.

Of course, but not so much as an advantage more a recognition that the Iraq war was a blunder and they have no choice but to pull out and that will be sooner rather than later. As they lose more troops there and in Afghanistan pressure will grow to end the occupation and they have to find another enemy to keep the arms industry here and in America in production.
One point to consider! Why can we not mind our own business in common with the Scandinavian people , they threaten no one and no one threatens them. Let the arms industry collapse and let us live in peace for once in our history.

It's possible MI5 murdered him, though I don't see how this would enable Britain to secure energy deals. If MI5 murdered him then the Russians would simply deny all knowledge and say it wasn't their problem.
