It once knew life, love and laughter / But now, all it knows is the creaking of its own rafters / And, when you drive by such a place, you can almost feel its pain / For it stands alone like an empty shell at the far end of East Main..........

Is there an abandoned home like this in your town? If so, then you may know what I'm talkin' about.

Actually there was. And it WAS on the end of East Main. It was all falling down and had wild animals in it. But the woodwork in it was beautiful and I never understood why the owners left all that beauty to rot.

Eeeeerie.

Is there anything sadder than an old, deserted house?
Yes>>>>>> An old man deserted by others to live in an old decrepit house. Some poor man/woman left in the streets with not enough to eat. Children in nations like Australia,England, U.S.A.,Canada, dying of starvation. There is a hell of a lot more things sadder than an old deserted house.Have you ever seen a puppy mill? God knows it goes beyond sad. It's pathetic.
A building is an inanimate object; but our own kind could care less for our own, and the creatures that we are the stewards of, feel even less empathy than that.
I hope this answers your question without stirring any rancour or ill feelings.

Yes, there is something sadder than an old, deserted house. It is an old (or new) house full of sad persons who can not understand themselves, one place full of life but empty of love,,,

That is sad and makes you wonder about all the life that has passed through its rooms. But even sadder to me, is an old, lonely person.

Ja. It reminds me of what this room's going to be like in a couple of years when I move out! I'd be so glad to move out,.....

.......and yet, I can't help but think of how sad my father would be, with no one around with him in the day. It's something every parent has to face, that old, empty nest syndrome.
