The reason that i asked this question was because i had to do a speech on how people should wear a helmet. and someone asked me the questiion how much was it for a ticket. that is why i am asking this question. my dad was in a wreck about 3 months ago and i beleive that he was saved b/c he was wearing a helmet. so yes i beleive people should wear a helmet ever time they get on a motorcycle.

If they are asking for a number, they are asking because the want to see if they can financially afford to ride without one. I would accompany info on the price of the ticket with some figures about the cost of long term treatment of head injuries. Finish up by telling them that if they arent going to take motorcycling seriously to just shut up and take the bus.

Who cares? Wear your helmet... ahem...

:steps up on soap box:

According to the Hurt Report (which was a comprehensive study of motorcycle accident cause factors and identification of countermeasures)...

"The most deadly injuries to the accident victims were injuries to the chest and head."
"The use of the safety helmet is the single critical factor in the prevention of reduction of head injury"
"Safety helmet use caused no attenuation of critical traffic sounds, no limitation of precrash visual field, and no fatigue or loss of attention; no element of accident causation was related to helmet use."
"Helmeted riders and passengers showed significantly lower head and neck injury for all types of injury, at all levels of injury severity"

Bottom line... you are going to crash your bike at some point... wear a helmet!

In Texas, our legislature revised the mandatory helmet law foisted on us by Democrat Gov Ann Richards. who liked to pose on a Harley (if you can imagine that). Her successor, a freedom loving American, signed the law that recognizes that adults can decide for themselves concerning the the importance of helmet use.

$300 here in Sydney, and three points added to your licence. After you get 11 points your licence is cancelled so it just aint worth the risk. I always wear my helmet when I ride and I have never seen anybody else without theirs either.

I have to wonder why you care. If the law in your state requires you to wear a helmet, then wear one and don't worry about it. If your state doesn't require one, then the freedom to choose is yours.

Depends on where you are. I am in Oklahoma and helmets are not mandatory, though they should be.

No, because I NEVER ride without one. It was your choice to get the ticket, no?
