This is pretty easy. You know the yard is square, and you know its area. So you can find the length of one side by taking the square root of the area, which is 120 feet.
Since you want to surround the yard with fencing on all four sides, you must buy 4 * 120 = 480 feet of fencing.
The total cost is then 480 * 8 = $3840.00

i'm no good at math, but i'll give it a shot!
okay...
if its a square yard, then the length and the width must equal each other. therefore l*w=14400 and l=w. if you use substitution, (say you substitute w in for l) you get w^2=14400. that means you need the square root of 14400, and that is 120. therefore the length is 120 feet and the width is 120 feet.
its a piece of cake from there. if the owner wants to fence it, you must find the perimeter of the lawn. perimeter=2l+2w, in this case 2(120)+2(120) or 240+240 or 480 feet. and if the fencing is 8 dollars a foot, then you multiply the number of feet times the number of dollars or 480 times 8 which is 3840.
So your answer is 3840 dollars.
if this is wrong, I'M SORRY!! i did all the math while writing this answer to u.

Start by taking the square root of 14400 to get the length of the one side of the yard, since it is a square. Then multiply this number by 4 since there are 4 sides of the yard. Finally multiply this number by $8 per foot, because you just found the perimeter of the fence in the last step. This should give you the cost of the fence.

First find out the measurements for the square lot having 14,400 square feet. 120 feet time 120 feet =14,400 square feet. This lot has 4 sides 120 feet long. 4x120 = 480 feet of fencing needed. Fencing cost $8.00 per linear foot. 480x 8 = $3,840.00 cost to fence the yard.

The area of a square yard is 14,400 square feet, so if n^2=14,400 , then n=side of square in feet. sqrt of 14400=a number that ends in 0 and is three digits 100a+10b+0. If 100a+10b=a square root, then 10,000a^2+2,000ab+100b^2= 14,400. By looking at the squares of one digit numbers, a=1 and b=2, so the positive square root of 14,400 is 120. +sqrt of n^2=120, so n=120. The perimeter of a square maps all points that are material, so it is the solution. The perimeter of a square=4n and n=120, so the perimeter of the square= 480 feet. If fencing costs $8 a foot, then $8 for every 480 "foot feet" gives you $3,840 for the cost of fence.

Draw the square. Label each side x. You know area is side X side, so you need to figure what times itself equals 14,400. To get this do the square root of 14400. That's how long each side is.
There are 4 sides so multiply this by 4 to get the total feet. Then multiply that by $8 to get the total cost.

it would be a little hard for me to draw a pic. i hope you can haddle that part. but here is the math:
i hope you know these two things:
A=L*W
P=2L+2W
but since the yard is a square you can make those look like this:
A=L^2
P=4L
now that you know that start with some math:
A=L^2
sqr(A)=l
you know A=14,400
so sqr(14400)=120
so now you know length of one side is 120 feet
the parimater is:
P=4L
so 4*120=480feet
thats how many feet of fence you need. at $8 a foot, you need:
8*480=$3840

Its a Square so the Square Root of the area is the length of a side 14400 SQRT is 120
The peremiter of the Square is 4 times one side 120ftX4=480ft
$8 X 480ft = $3840

sqrt(14400) = 120'
perimeter of square = 4 * side = 480'
480' * $8/feet = $3840
