Why is it OK for women to notice that other women are attractive, but if a man comments on how attractive another man is, he is considered to be acting gay?

Same reason why it is ok (encouraged by men) for girls to act sexually with other girls, but there's no way in hell a straight guy would agree to be a part of guy-on-guy action.

The simple answer: society.

Because of this variance between men and women in the sexual preference department. Men's sexual preference is much more rigid than women's. This is shown by the ethnographic data and self reports. For instance; the number of women that " assume " a homosexual relationship, after being married is ten to fifteen time greater than the converse. Women report feeling fantasy sexual feelings toward their own sex at about 35% of the population. Men report in at about 16%. This is evolutionarily predicted on the variance between the sexes. So female-female behavior follows a less structured form. Notice how they touch and ignore personal space between themselves more often. Men and women vary; this is a point that is impossible, it seems, to drive home in this, the " social science " section. If a man more than comments in passing, on another mans attractiveness, he may very well be gay. It would be inconceivable for me to more than note that Tom Cruise is attractive. I probable would only think about it ,if asked, then forget it as uninteresting in the next second. It is not that I am constrained by any societal prosciption, it is more disinterest/indifference, than anything else. This is how the average man feels about male pulchritude.

Society dictates that and it's unfortunate because a man can see beauty in so many things (including women), it's so stupid that a man can't express how another man looks. If he looks good, he looks good. People are so hung up on stereotyping which is a sad thing. What's the harm in it? It never stops me from letting another female how she looks or whatever. Stereotyping stinks.

Sadly straight society fears men admiring each other due
to Homophobia, which makes every man a suspect? there
for men restrain their true emotions towards other men.
So men who express these emotions are condemn and
labeled gay! men are given no relief from this 24hr witch
hunt. Females present no threat to the power structure`
so they can sleep together..dance..kiss..admire..even
have sex with each other with little or no condemnation.
I firmly believe that's why men die earlier than most females
due to the social pressures placed on them in a sexually
focused and judgmental society. If Jesus Christ him self
was found to be gay? im sure most straight people would
change Religions and toss their Bibles into barn fire,s.

Good question. I can't see why not. I've had guys describe another man as "attractive" - not as if they are attracted TO him, but just as a factual statement so you can picture what they're describing. I've never considered for a moment that meant they had homosexual feelings for the man.

It depends on who your talking to and what exactly are you commenting on? If he's a nice dresser I see a reason why a man would be commenting on a guys apperance now if you say something about his butt or his arms then maybe it's gay. It depends on the circumstances.

Its another one of those double standards. Like a man who gets a lot of women is considered a pimp and popular with the ladies; while for a woman who gets a lot of men is considered a slut and a filthy whore.

You would be amazed at what little it takes for women and men alike to think a man is flirting or worse. I wish I could change that. I know a brillint artist, a watercolorist, who is barely allowed out of the house because of a jealous husband. They have a phone caller id system and I couldn't even call her to tell her about a job that she could have taken because he knows my name and monitors all incoming calls and won't let men call her. It's all so sad.

To be honest men can, they just choose not to because if they do they are considered gay. I'm pretty sure guys think about it but won't say it. "That guy has nice abs, I'd like a set of abs like that" you can think it just don't say is unless you want to be called gay.
