a rodent has died in our attic and we can't find it.
How can you get the fierce smell out ?

I spread 5 large boxes of baking soda around the attic.
Will moth balls keep the mice /rats away?

HELP !

Depending on the size of your attic, get 1-2 bottles of pure vanilla extract. Pour them in bowls, cups etc. Place all around the attic. Vanilla is a natural odor absorber.
I've never heard of mothballs keeping rodents away. Try some sticky traps.
Good luck.

The odor will not go away until the dead creature is removed or finished decaying. The decaying process often only lasts a little more than a week. Most areas have pest control companies that will remove the dead rodent for you, thouh they will normally charge you a pretty penny for this service.

Moth balls only repel moths and people, the mice and rats will not care. Rodents need to be trapped or killed. Once the family is removed the problem is solved for a time.

The smell will take care of itself in time, even if you do nothing.

Purchase mice & rat killer called Decon. I live at the lake and (knock on wood) have not had a problem in years! You just open the flap on the box and set it down. Rodent eats the poison... poison will kill and dry out the carcus ( just turns to dust) , and without any smell at all. I put the stuff out about twice a year. It's real cheap too!. Good Luck :o)
