Is pursuing a career in music all that its cracked up to be? i want to become a musician, but i know i also have to be reasonable and open to other job opportunities if in fact I did not make it.

Hard is a degree to which your question requires my knowledge...You have to pay your dues...you must work extremely long and hard at your craft (not just a weekend jigger)...the industry is crammed full of musicians, so you must have a way of letting the industry see you as different than the rest of the musicians...this will take many years in most cases and does not guarantee that you will be successful...if for any reason you have an opportunity to finish an education and get a degree prior to making the move to be a serious musician then do it so that you will have something to fall back on if you fail....Is it HARD? Life is what we all make of it...stay your course and avoid the pitfalls that others have not...Good Luck is not involved...ONLY SKILL EXISTS.

Already some good answers, but here is mine. Yes, it is hard to make it, but it depends on what you mean...do you mean being a superstar, a studio musician, a successful songwriter, a producer, tour manager, sideman in a good band?? If you want to be a star, most of them are singers. If you want to make a living playing or singing, remember there is probably no pension plan, insurance, etc. I think it is best to have a great day job and play music for your own enjoyment. Some people can handle the travel, the lack of sleep, fast food, rushing from place to place, dealing with promoters, less than ideal sound and environment, etc., but I'd rather be in the fun side, just weekends. I hope that helps.

EMOS particularly adolescents with undesirable flavor and record businesses who in basic terms sign artists who make demanding crappy repetitive songs. actual expertise is underground. buyers if queen had in basic terms released bohemian rhapsody or if Led Zeppelin has in basic terms released Stairway to heaven it does not be performed on the radio. buyers choose their well-known 3 minute music. the clarification those bands like P!ATD and MCR are one in all those success is they cater to the teenage drama scene that's in all probability between the worst issues to do. additionally after the debut of MTV music has substitute into greater of a fashion assertion. To get human beings to pay attention you create a fad and then they'd sell their fad to unsuspecting adolescents. music now could be turning out to be a corporation that's what music could by no ability do. music isn't corporation it somewhat is artwork.

What kind of music do you mean? Rock music? Jazz? Classical? I'm a classical musician at a conservatory...and it's really hard. I think I'm going to mostly teach music and hopefully perform. Jazz is equally hard to study and make a living off of. I don't know about rock.

Just make the worst music you possibly can and you'll be signed instantly. Just look at Fall Out Boy and Panic At The Disco, they both have zero talent yet have 13 years old girls who don't know good music screaming at them all over the place.
