no, it doesn't. Someone who murders has no respect for life, including their own.
Additionally, it costs the state more money to put someone to death than it costs to house, feed and clothe them for 65 years. Litigation and appeals is very costly. You have to wonder what the point of the death penalty is.
Should we even talk about the more than a dozen people who were executed and later found innocent? OOOOPS.

Yes, it does. Example: There were many kidnappings for ransom (and many victims were never found) before making kidnapping a federal "Death Penalty (Capitol) crime.
AFTER the LINDBERGH baby was kidnapped the FEAR of the death penalty significantly reduced the Kidnappings. Read the State Stats and Federal Stats on Kidnappings. Maybe there are few kidnappings FOR PROFIT because of this fear?? Read "The crime of punishment, " Carl Menninger"

Not only is there NO EVIDENCE that the death penalty reduces crime of any kind, but there is a positive correlation between existence of the death penalty and amount of crime -- they go together.
Civilized countries (that is, countries who don't kill their citizens) have less crime.
Plus, they're more civilized.

I am not sure it stops criminals in general from commiting a crime but it sure does keep the one that is dead from going and commiting the same kind of crime ever again. Good enough for me. One less tax dollar thrown at people who do not deserve it.

Its doesn't.
Its a misconception that everyone is afraid of death. The truth, not all people are afraid of death. There a lot of things is scarier than death and to these criminal, one thing for sure what they afraid is not death.
Death penalty don't bring that kind of fear anymore. But at least, one can't be a repetitious serial killer
