Gears of War is the most popular 360 game, and it's a lot of fun. There's an excellent meta review site that reviews all 360 games so you can get an idea about some other ideas in case he already has GOW. (see below)

This is the game that shows the Xbox360's power. Great graphics and a whole new cover system that forces you to take cover and plan your move. The reviews, and the game itself has been outstanding. If he's into shear choas and brutality in a game, then this is it.

depends what that guy is into. i know a few guys who prefer Blazing Angels to Gears of War. if he's into RPG more than Enchanted Arms is awsome.
