C.P.,,,,

That started back when English rock band "The Who"
was playing in a club ......the place had a normal height ceiling,,,but had a sorta Stage or bandstand built.

So the effect was,,,like having a very Low Ceiling.

The guitarist ACCIDENTLY rammed his guitar into the ceiling.

The Crowd went Wild,,they LOVED it,,, & thought it was part of the show somehow.

The Next performer to pick up on that type of "theatrics" was Jimi Hendrix.
He Beat and Banged his guitar around on all sorts of stuff on stage,,,,but PRIMARILY for purpose of SOUND EFFECT.
Even hosing the guitar with lighter fluid and Burning It was done with the primary intention of producing Weird Noises.

Of course,,the Visual aspects was what the Crowd "understood" and got into.
And it was part of the show,I 'spose,,I'm sure.

It started out as an honest ACCIDENT,,,
which inspired Further exploration of the antics as a method to produce SOUND.....

(Or so the story goes...???)

And finally evolved into mere "Bash & Trash" to please the crowd's tastes.

People WANT to SEE that kind of performance.
Same way that many, many people go to Car/Motorcycle races
hoping to see some KEEEEWWWLL KRASHEZZZzzz!!!

Guitars are a dime a dozen,,there's 1,000's out there.

At some point,,they become just Stage Props,,,expendable, disposable.

Nobody ever mentions that Hendrix never burned or trashed
any of his Flying V's

I dont know of Any genuinely Rare or Valuable guitars ever being destroyed....but it's surely Possible.
Most are CRAP Models,or replicas.

Anyway,,simple answer:
Fans want to see equipment being destroyed

Most of the time it is a staged act. They have a cheap "knock off" guitar that is set up to break apart when they smash it. Or they have an endorsement with the guitar manufacturer that probably likes them to tear them up and throw them to the kids in hopes that they will rush out and buy their own.

It shows that they're hardcore and they can pay for it with the money that you're paying them to see them on tour.
