A solid is a form of a liquid, some solids can't be broken. A liquid is not very common on the table of elements, most of them are nonmetals, but is the first stage to a solid. A gas is a nonmetal, most of the gases are the last stage of an elements deduction.

Solid is something you can hold in your hands.
Liquid - you can't hold it, but it will stay in a bucket.
Gas - It will escape from your hands as well as a bucket.
