The starter Motor is going bad and draining the battery. Change the starter motor befor you tear up the ring gear.

Sounds like the battery. Take it to an auto parts store and they can test the battery for you. If it were the starter, you would not hear the clicking noise. The battery is much much much easier and less expensive to replace.

Sounds like a battery not sure what the grinding noise would be though. Most autoparts stores will check the battery for free.

was it a grinding noise or a clicking noise? A grinding noise would mean the starter is going, a clicking noise means the starter is disconnected, and the wires to the starter are touching something that would make the battery die.

Sorry but it sounds like the starter went bad and then drained the battery. If it is a stick shift push start it and go to the auto parts and ask for their help in finding out what is wrong with your car.Good luck Rick Det.Mi

Either you have a bad ground, a dirty cable or your battery is shot. My money is on the latter. If that's the original battery, you are long overdue for a new one.
