Ayn Rand achieved her spectacular success with Atlas Shrugged(1957) but, I think her best was from 1943-
THE FOUNTAINHEAD. It was said that it was way to intelligent to ever sell. It has been in print for many ,many years and I have read it twice. There should be a statue of the main character
Howard Roark in every city of bright lights+ streamline buildings.
Once you read it I'm sure you will agree.

For most of my life 1984 was my favorite book. Even after I read Atlas Shrugged, 1984 retained the top spot. As I aged, however, Atlas Shrugged displaced 1984. It was only after reading books on Economics that I discovered how prophetic Ayn Rand was. Both 1984 and Atlas Shrugged warn of a future where the ideals of the past collapse because of continued attacks by the enemies of freedom, but I feel that Atlas Shrugged, at this point, is a more likely prediction than 1984.
Ayn Rand fans may suggest that The Fountainhead is better, but I believe that Atlas Shrugged is more comprehensive, more dramatic, and more rewarding. The Fountainhead teaches us how we should live our lives, and Atlas Shrugged hints at what the world may become if we all follow Howard Roark, Dagny Taggart, and Henry Rearden.

I just finished it for the 2nd time. The first time I read it was about 12 years ago in college. Honestly I found myself more open to it when I was younger. Perhaps that shows that I'm a little disappointed with where I let myself end up, perhaps wasting some of that energy and hope that I had back then. It is an awesome novel that has got me thinking again and maybe a little more motivated after I get over the initial disappointment.

No. But it's not bad either.
+++Spoiler (sort of)+++ I hate that word.
Wait until you hit Galt's droning, seemingly unending diatribe, then tell me it's the best novel ever. Enjoy anyway.

I never read it, or anything else by Ayn Rand, but my brother had read and raved about it a few years back. Maybe I should give it a try.
