i have to do an assignement on the 1980's for school but i didn't exist back then i have no idea what it was like. can you tell me what kind of food, music, clothes, etc was popular back then? thx

Food:
People didn't eat at McDonald's like they do now. Typically, people would eat at home where someone would prepare wholesome meals

Clothes:
Parachute pants
Michael Jackson jacket

Food: No difference, except perhaps we didn't care as much about glutens, or carbs, or whatever the hot diets say we should care about.

Music: "Hair bands" were popular, like Def Leppard, BonJovi, etc., as was New Wave -- Blondie, the Go-Gos, Devo -- and heavy metal -- Van Halen, Aerosmith. Rap was just starting: Run DMC was popular. Michael Jackson was still the "King of Pop." Country was hot, god knows why...

Clothes: Watch the John Hughes ouevre: Pretty in Pink, Breakfast Club, and things like Fast TImes at Ridgemont High

New Wave Music, Pop Music--got to love the walkman and boombox. Break dancing(what ever that was). Really big hair or shaved off. May want to try Ask about.com. Web sit has an 1980's info.

Motley Crew, Depeche Mode, Boy George, Duran Duran, Journey, The Police, Survivor, Foreigner, Van Halen, U2.

Clothes:
Punk was popular, as were "stirrup" pants, layered tops, off the shoulder shirts and "pegged" pants for girls. Funky hats for guys and girls were popular. Tapered pants for both genders, acid wash, slap on bracelets, jean jackets, draw string pants and converse sneakers were also popular. Goth was another look to gain interest in the 80's.

Food
Junk Food was HUGE at this time. Frozen fruit bars, oreo ice cream, skittles, chocolate riesen, mike and ikes, monster cereals like frankenberry, fruit and cream twinkies. Other popular items were tostitos, air popped pop corn, tv dinners, hamburger helper, peanut butter and jelly together in a jar (Goober), spaghettios, push pops, pop rocks, pizza hut, mcdonalds, pixie sticks, capri sun

Etc.
Garbage pail kids were very popular, atari video games, friendship bracelets, woven hair clips, skateboarding, transformers, g i joe, barbie and the rockers, jem and the holograms, strawberry shortcake dolls, nintendo, Cheers on TV, the Jeffersons, Threes Company, smurfs, carebears, valley girl talk, garfield, rubiks cube, max headroom, MTV.

80's were weird/retarded...had some leftover hippies still, space exploration was still in the forefront, but it was known for being the "me" generation. see link
