I think sometimes they are defensive to a point of irrationality. My guess is that it's not on purpose but rather it's become a habit! I think that when you feel different you are different...usually because you want to break the patterns that annoy you about you!

I am in no way racist, I have friends of many different races. But the problems I have recently has with a few black people are: 1 has raped my sister, and 2 others have robbed my dads house. I am not saying I hate ALL black people, I just saying that I hate these 3 people because of what they have done to my family, and they just happen to be black. I wouldn't ever blame these problems on "The black race" itself. But I also believe that black people are just as much racist as white people. White people complain about the thugs, and rap lyrics and things like that, but there are white "thugs" and white rappers too. I honestly think that there shouldn't be a black history month, and here's the reason why, what I have found, is that more "racist" things happen during black history month, if schools didn't teach ANYTHING about black people, I could understand about having black history month, but seeing as how in school we learn about Dr. Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman, Malcolm X, and so on, I don't feel we should have a whole month dedicated to it. If we had a white history month, all hell would break lose and all white people would be considered racist. I know ALOT of people may not agree with what I am saying, and maybe I am wrong. But its just the way I feel.

This is question is way too complex for you to even imagine. I really regret that you asked it in this manner as well. I could easily spit out too many instances where I have had bad encounters with African Americans. I could not identify myself with the culture easily as I come from an upper class all white neighborhood and I am of another nationality...although I am black. I could easily hang out with only those of my nationality, or white people, etc. etc...anything but African Americans.
...but what does that do? It perpetuates hate. It shows how we've all been socialized to hate one another due to the color of our skin (racism) how much money another has (classism) or something else that is irrelevant. It's stupid.
It's important to understand why and how and where these problems are stemming from. You shouldn't say you don't fit in with your race...you might not fit in with the dominant Black American culture for some reason or another...but if you go in with every encounter feeling that way, of course you're not going to!

The main problem is we find it hard to build relationships with outsiders {even within our race} if they dint act how we act or do what we do. All races have bad seeds, a bad experience is just that, in some cases the offender is black, in some they are white. I love black people with a passion. The spirit, the music, the way we bring life to a dull situation. I can only love that which is me.

You don't fit in with your own race? Sounds like you need couseling. I've been told that I am an angry black male because I have strong views on race, religion, politics, sexual orientation. But here are the facts..........All people have some form of predudice and racisim still extists, there is no such thing as "reverse racisim" blacks are racists too but that doesn't make it reverse racisim....that makes it racism!!!plain and simple, I still want my 40 acres and a mule!!! but since I'll never get it from the GOV...I will continue to work hard and buy my own. Jesus is not White, and Moses was African, All politicians are crooks and are over paid. Teachers, cops and military are grossly under paid. Welfare is evil...there are more whites on welfare that blacks...............blacks make up about 5 percent of the population, whites make up about 45 percent of the population. Do the math!!! I don't care if god made Adam and Eve or Adam and Steve....You are born gay.........you don't turn gay. You are who you are and all people deserve the same basic rights. There is a difference between ***** and ******, and white people shouldn't say either one.......black people shouldn't either. I call them like I see them and it seems that you are ashamed of what black culture evolved from, what it evolved into. Black history is more that Slavery to Hip Hop.....Africa was the center of all learning until Europeans ravaged the land. Go back to the roots. I am proud of my race..........my wife is proud of hers too. We are all Human..........and that is the only race that really matters.

When I have problems with a black person, it's not because he or she is black. Problems arise because of misunderstandings, bad moods, bad days, burnt toast...whatever. This isn't to minimize the problems with racism in this country. It just means that I don't have problems with anyone *because* of their race.
I wonder why you feel that you don't fit in with your race. My husband and I are Caucasian and our son is bi-racial but identifies as black. I think he occasionally feels like he doesn't fit in with either race.

The only problem with black americans that I have is that many of them call themselv es "African-americans", instead of Black-americans. Same as many ignorant people of Irish or Italian descent refer to themselves as Irish-american or Italian american even though none of them were born in another country. All the black americans that I met had ancestors that were in this country long before the late coming european immigrants. To be perfectly accurate, ALL americans and ALL humans can call themselves African-american since All Human life started in Africa, and if we accept the blacks in america calling themselves "African-american".

I'm from Australia and we don't have many african/american's here, but when I have come across them when I was in America I found some of them angry at white people for stuff that happened before they were born even. I understand their combined angst but "I" didn't enslave their ancestors so why attack me just cos I'm white? Anger is a useless emotion I reckon.

Here in Louisiana it seems that many blacks are just as prejudice as some whites. Don't get me wrong, most people here are nice and everyone gets along great, but there is still some racism and it's not just with the white people. South Louisiana doesn't seem to be nearly as bad as the north.

Well, a black lady once tried to poison my mom. But I don't think all black people would feel comfortable killing another person. I just think she's psycho.
But I have noticed that a lot of black Caribbean people wear bright colours. Although, that might be more of a Caribbean thing.
