I need an intro for this report im doing on the loved, i read, but i dont understand it, whats the theme? And my intro should be about the author and how it relates to the book, but im really confused, so if anyone could help me out, thanks!!!

Do you mean "The Loved One"? As far as I know, Waugh wrote this satiric novel based on American uncommon tradition regarding the dead during (or, maybe, after; please verify) his invitation from his friends there to stay, to travel and to write. Remember, Waugh wrote to amuse people so you need to focus on some key points he raised once in a while as well as the context at that period.
You should read either a paperback published by Penguin Books or a hardcover published by Alfred A. Knopf in the Everyman's Library series. The second one's highly recommended since it has a good introduction as well as the chronology related to his literary span of life as well as the critical events in the world. Firstly: read the book! I found it to be a fun read.
Secondly, if your report is looking at "The Loved One" and the author....then just reference very lightly those points you mention throughout your piece. An introduction is exactly what it's called: introduce what your piece will go through. If you don't have an idea of the body, then there's no way you can start your intro. Good luck!
