I plan to do a trip like that if I move to the UK, or possibly France, and tour my homeland of Vietnam.

You could always try it. You'd have to plan it really well though and make sure you get written permission in advance to travel through countries like Russia, Iran and Pakistan.

To all the people saying it's an island so you can't do it: It is possible to take your own car onto ferries or onto trains through the tunnel in order to cross the english channel with your car.

UK is an island. so no you cannot drive to another country. In addition it would take days to drive. Your best bet is to take a train (in Europe people take the train to travel all over the continent.) You would take the Eustar under the English channel then take the Eurail to where ever. I dont know though if the train goes all the way to Vietnam, but it gets close. Or just fly, but you will miss a lot if you do that.

As quick and uncomplicated the flight is, why attempt a motor vehicle vacation. i'd be worried about getting petrol, tires and ruin downs out contained in the boonies. Little lone attempting to get visa's and bypass by the borders to get right here.

If you could get on a ferry to France or somewhere, there's probably roads all the way...
