He wasn't an alcoholic, but wants to stop smoking so he has decided to stop it all. I never smoke ANYTHING. So is it wrong for me to have a drink or 2 sometimes?

You should allow the "Weaker Brother Principle" to apply here. Don't drink, since you are the stronger partner right now, you should set a good example especially if you want to see this person do well with the step program.

Respect his efforts by not having that "drink or two" when you are with him.

I say don't drink if you want him to stay clean and sober .
