On a quarter, there is either a letter P or D on the heads side. What does that mean?

Minted in Philadelphia, or Denver

The different letters refer to where the coin was minted.
The letter P on the coin means that the coin was minted in Philadelphia.
The letter D on the coin means that it was minted in Denver.

The P means Philadelphia Mint.
The D means Denver Mint.

If you are collecting them you need one of each. I'm pretty sure the D's are easier to find than the P's. I am missing so many P's in my books.

The letters tell you which mint they came from - Philadelphia or Denver.

D for Denver

And if you buy the proof set, there will be an S, for San Francisco, where the proof sets are minted.
