Okay, first of all ... that's a bad quote. The nice guy doesn't finish last; its just a saying to say when someone actually does finish last. Its like saying ... yeah, you failed, at least your nice. Okay, numero uno, niceness, kindness kills in politics. America has not voted for an aggressive politician in decades. Kindness and niceness conquer in business ... in sales, in customer service, in negotiating, in union negotiations, and dealing with disgruntled employees. Kindness and niceness are the main ingredients of Dale Carnegie's "How to win friends and influence people."
Let's play the inverse. When then does aggression or a 'bad ****' mentality win. 1. in the military. 2. sports. 3. police work 4. dealing with male dominated industries such as construction and steel mills, especially steel mills 5. the criminal life.
These are the five basics areas in which aggression prevails, because it is essential.
So what the connection. Why do people think that aggression wins, or a 'bad ****' mentality wins. Simply, more so, to females aggression is considered masculine, as in ANGER is a primarily male emotion ... one of the view emotions a male is allowed to express without being looked down upon. Thus, when a male acts aggressive, or dangerous, or bad, it is a subliminal message of masculinity that women sometimes don't know why they are drawn to but the primitive answer is that an aggressor, a bad ****, a dangerous guy is also presumed to be a very good ... protector. The female feels safe within his aggression so long as he doesn't use it upon her. She feels proud of his dangerous acts, because she values what his courage means ... he's courageous enough to protect her. Thus, she wears his dominant masculine traits as a cadillac of sorts. Through his ability and his aggression she becomes a vehicle of aggression because she can propel him upon her adversaries. "shut your mouth or my boyfriend will get involved."
Now, quite the contrary. A nice guy is assumed to a non-fighter, a gentleman, a civilized guy, who would rather not fight. Thus, he is less protective at least by perception. You gotta watch though sometimes the quietest guys are very lethal --- but that's not the perception.
So the quiet, nice guy may finish last because he not perceived as be valuable in a secondary way, as a protector.
The only reason that psychologists can imagine that women are attracted to serial killers is that the killer represents raw power, which she hopes he will not use on her, but she would like to have him use his power on her opponents.
If a female feels she needs protection, the aggressive male wins. if the female feels she needs economic sustainence, the nice guy wins.
