when oberon and titania assembled the little people, they found that the picies and the leprechauns were in a ratio of 3 to 13. If there were 6816 in all, how many were pixies.

Lets take the different groups of people as x
that means 3x+13x=6816(pixies and leprechauns)
16x=6816
x=426
So now we've got x
the no.of pixies were 3x
that means 3 mul by x=1278
so there were 1278 pixies
the same way leprechauns are 13x
that means 13 mul by x =5538

think of it this way: for every 3 pixies you have, you have 13 leperchauns. 3 and 13 is 16. divide 6816 by 16. then by that number, round to the nearest whole number. try using that to figure out ur answer.

1278 pixies......here's the math....
3x + 13 x = 6816
16x = 6816
x = 426
so 3 pixies for every 13 leprechauns works out to
3*426 = 1278 pixies
13*426=5538 leprechauns for a total of 6816.....

Divide 6816 by 13, then divide that number by 3. You will then have your answer.
