Computer and printer are connected. Message says printer not connected. Took apart and reconnected. Nothing happens each time. Changed usb cable, disconnected power cord. What am I doing wrong. I have Windows XP and this printer is supposed to be compatable.

you need to call Dell (They help you for free as long as its a Dell PC) its the software

what you are doing wrong, if the computer is not locating the drivers for the printer, you will have to go the site that supports the drivers for the printer, if the computer does,nt reconize the printer, then the problem lies where if cant or don,t have the driver for the printer, just go to the web site for the brand name printer you have and follow the links that will allow you to download the driver for the printer, when the download comes
click allow, and follow the on screen prompts, then you there.

unhook the printer then install the printer driver from the disk that u got with the printer, then rehook the printer!

maybe your usb cable is very long use a usb cable whit 1-2 meter length maybe your problem solved and maybe your usb on your computer be off you must go to system bios and turn it on .
