Object desktop is sweet you can change all kinds of the visual setting of your desktop you can get it for free from limewire or buy the whole suite of programs for like five hundred so I recomend limewire

if your using windows xp, install all the windows update to keep your windows updated.
also intall antivirus and make sure it is updatable.
Adobe reader, Java, Yahoo Messenger, Microsoft Office, mozilla fire fox, limewire (to download song and videos).
and dont forget yo run your antivirus often.
