Because they are religious. It is in the Bible to hate people of differences so your family is just following what "HE" said to. You can't blame them either, a false education is one that many people have in america.

What you can do is just be proud of what you are. Screw your family. If they don't understand you then they have no right to be embarrassed. Over time they may come to understand but you just have to stay strong.

Because we haven't reached the stage, where being gay is accepted by everyone. Your parents probably don't understand, they probably envisioned you having a wedding (to a woman) and children someday. I'm not sure how you can make them understand more. Talk to them about your feelings maybe and see what their feelings are. It will take time. But your parents should hopefully come around to being more accepting, once they realize that there's nothing they can do about it. My friend "Jeff" didn't come out to his family until he was 18, and it took a while but now his family doesn't seem to mind. I mean he's 30 now so they've had 12 years to get over it, but the point is they love him and they all hang out together now. Hopefully your parents will lighten up to your situation. Good luck and God bless!

It's because their little brains are so full of all these religious fanatics interpretation of how humans are suppose to live and judging people for who they are and not what we can do to benefit our country. Besides they can't live your life for you and tell them if you can't accept me for what I am, I hope to see you in heaven because I am going their because God and his son Jesus said that if you believe in me and ask for forgiveness, you will be in paradise..... If your parents can't accept that, just tell them they are the ones gong to hell....We Gays are coming out more and more and getting the rights we deserve in order to live on this over populating world... Besides tell them, "At least you don't have to worry about me having kids, but can adopt some kids that are desparate for a nice and caring home...I raised 4 foster kids and now they are all grown up and raising their own families and they turned out normal...The boys are men with no gayness but men who love women...I raised 2 girls and 2 boys and did a damn good job and having never married, I am proud to be a Grandpa....Even though I have my significant other (Lover) who lives with me and helped me raise these kids..I am now 51 years old and still enjoying my life with him and ready to retire and start travelling and see what this big blue marble (earth) has to offer....So don't feel alone when your parents pester you about being gay, because there are some positive sides to this and I named a few.....Wishing you the best of luck and hope you hang in there and Happy Holidays to you and your significant other...

Because they are from an older generation, when such behavior was litterally thought to be due to a mental illness. Not only that, but it was also believed that women should stay at home, and take care of the kids!

Thank GOD you're generation has evolved and you can think for yourself.

It's a very common reaction.

Perhaps you could give them some information from www.pflag.org. It might help them understand.

If not, you wouldn't be the only gay person that has had to decide how close he wants to be with his family.

Becuase there are still alot of intolerant and ignorant people out there. Gays need to be publically out and not worry about what others are thinking. Eventually people will learn to tolerate and even accept gays.

Because being gay is not "normal". I would be embarrassed too. Sorry, but God created us to be with the opposite sex, not the same sex.
