certain birth control pills will lessen the effects and shorten the length of your period. also you can safely skip a period by not taking the "sugar pills" (the pills you take when you having your period when you are on birth control).

Birth control pills...
My periods are VERY light and about 3 days long.
You can also skip periods, but they say to only do that once every 3-4 months. Plus the next period is heavier then. You do this by skipping the pills in the pack that let you have a period and starting the new month's right away.
I suggest tampons though. Try them. Just make sure you change it every 4-6 hours and use the lightest one possible - that's the safest way to use them.

The only way is by prescription drug for that new pill to shorten your period or to get on the pill.
I think if you just tell your Dad, hey it's that time of the month, he will actually stop "making" you swim for fear of that response in the future. He knows about the female reproductive system and how it works, just let him know.
Or if you are too embarrased, call up an Aunt or other woman close to the family and have her tell him ;)

It's kind of an important part of life, so even if there is some way to shorten it or skip it, you shouldn't do it. That would be bad for your health. Maybe you could talk to your mom about it and she could give your dad some other excuse for whatever reason he's making you go swimming every day.

The only thing I have heard of is the pills, some birth control ones, but your body was designed to have a period every month. I wouldn't think that it would be very safe. Your best bet would be to ask a gynecologist.

yes you can take the pill without breaking off for the time when your period is due. Before doing this however, discuss it with your doctor.
Tampons work perfectly well when swimming, try to get the new ones that have a silky outer, they are easier to insert.

the best way to get over your period is to accept it. all that "shorten your period or to skip it" crap is not good for your body. it makes your whole body irregular. so just accept it and try to use tampons. they really work well. and tell your dad. he will understand. i told mine and he understood. i am on a swim team an d tampons has really helped me. just try them. don't like them, don't use them. please take my advice.
