My mother-in-law siad she doesn't want me to stress because I could miscarry. I am 20 weeks now, so how is it possible to misscarry. What would it consit of. Wouldn't it just be a early birth? Also, can your cervix just open like that from stress?

A baby born at 20 weeks is very premature and may not survive outside the womb. Though not technically a miscarriage, it would be premature birth.
As far as your cervix just opening up from stress, not likely. However, stress is harmful to a developing baby and to you. Stress can cause a rise in blood pressure, which can, in turn, create premature labor.
Just find something you like to do that you find relaxing. And try to enjoy the next 20 weeks.

A miscarriage is a spontanious abortion, an early termination of a pregnancy. No miscarriages are not just early births as a miscarried fetus of 12 weeks would not survive outside the womb. At best a small percentage of fetuses at 22 weeks can survive outside the womb. That is why ELECTIVE abortions beyond 22 weeks are illegal in the U.S.
