I think it is because of low self esteem. Some people are just not happy with themselves. They think that color, or money, or clothes or something else will make them happy, when that is not true.

Because at one time or another someone criticized them for nothing more than the color of their skin, someone insecure in their own skin, projecting their own issues, and inflicting the same feelings onto another person, affecting them deep down inside and threatening their self-worth, self-love, and identity. Only a strong person can resist such social pressure to fit in, and stand up for who they are and love themselves. Everyone else is desperately trying to forget who they really are, extinguish themselves, and change into what they can never be. It's a sickness. I blame Christianity for rendering people susceptible to random people's opinions.

Personally I don't see what difference it makes. I don't think a particular race has sole ownership over a way of dressing/talking/behaving etc. Culture is subjective and not something you can box or label.

However I think South Park explained it best when they said:

MR. GARRISON
Chef, what did you do when white people
stole your culture?

CHEF
Oh. Well, we black people just always
tried to stay out in front of them.

MR. SLAVE
How did you do that?

CHEF
Well, like with our slang. Black people
always used to say, "I'm in the house"
instead of "I'm here." But then white
people all started to say "in the house"
so we switched it to "in the hizzouse."
Hizzouse became hizzizzouse, and then
white folk started saying that, and
we had to change it to hizzie, then
"in the hizzle" which we had to change
to "hizzle fo shizzle," and now, because
white people say "hizzle fo shizzle,"
we have to say "flippity floppity floop."

MR. GARRISON
We don't have time for all that, Chef!
Oh, if only those Queer Eye For the
Straight Guy people understood what
they were doing. Wait. That's it!
I know exactly what to do! Come on,
Mr. Slave! Let's get back to our flippity
floppity floop!

do u mean like a different race?
like caucasion trying to be african american?
cuz I see that alot..
It's cracks me up personally.. we are who we are.. not something we want to be.. and watching people trying to accomplish being another race is completely crazy!
I know some white boys that try to act black and don't get me wrong thats not bad.. I just dont know why they do it.. and since we have black friends.. they can talk and do everything just like our friends.. they dont go all the way and dress like some of them do but ya know.. when youre around someone so long.. u start to act like them
but anways I have no idea why people try to act different than who they are. I love ALL my friends no matter what race they are and wouldn't trade none of my friends for nothing in the world..

Yeah, I don't think it's trying to be a different color, just a different personality and lifestyle.

If ignorance is bliss, you must be in Heaven

personalities aren't assigned to races. There's no such thing as a set behavior for black, white or any other HUMAN BEINGS. People like you perpetaute the stereotype and get mad when someone who isn't black insults your behavior.

I don't believe there's such thing as acting like you're are a different color or nationality. If you are referring to a person's behavior or demeanor in general, you are catergorizing them and yourself and this would make you a bigot.

Do you mean a different race? I think the reason why people want to be something that they are not is because they are not happy being who they are.... That might be kinda confusing, but yea...also they might want to be something else because they are jealous of somebody elses race. For instance... a lot of people want to be black because black people are becoming more popular, because of all of the rappers and stuff... yea. ithink that you should be happy of what you are and that you shouldnt want to be something else. Be proud of who you are and dont try to hide it.

I agree that it is some sort of self hatred, especially my race, but thats not to save every race does not have that problem. It's like that old saying the grass is always greener.
