He is the only pure one...everyone else has a dark side. He wanted to follow rules and allow everything to be just but no one listened to him and everyone was just about destroyed by each other.

I think the idea is that he's the pure one. He's also supposed to be the smart one, the one that really comes up with useful ideas.
