1)You can read a range of books,ranging from C.S Lewis books to magazines to Reader's digest.I would prefer Reader's Digest as they used a wide range of vocabulary.If you encounter any difficult words,check up the dictionary.This will deepen the impression of the words
2)You can try reading the dictionary.Not the thick one,but the smaller pocket size one.You can choose to read only the words which is unfamiliar to you.

While a freshman in high school, my academic English teacher insisted we learn 25 new vocabulary words every week. We were tested on 100 every four weeks, missing 5 was acceptable. If you missed more than five, you took the test over again three days later, after school. Perhaps a bit stiff, but she was preparing us for college. I am very thankful for having her as a teacher, even thirty years later.

Read more books and the learning will come. Also, look at some vocabulary flashcards that come with SAT books...they have words in them that I've never even heard of in my life.

flash cards are kind of elementry but they still help me ace vocab tests =)
