Yeah i purchased it on DVD the other day. as i never got a chance to catch it at the cinemas. And what i would say is that it's good however as the media had portrayed it of being the best out of the three. I didn't think it was that good to be able to say that. Some of the action scenes are good but could've been better. And it can never be compared to James Bond as 007 is a 45 year old franchise and still doing extremely well. Have you seen Casino Royale?........... you'll realise the difference if you've watched it. Ian Fleming the guy who created Bond was i would say a genious who created a character that has so many different shades and is loved by people all around the world. Tom Cruises Mission Impossible Franchise just can't come even close to James Bond.
I don't know what Cruise thought that lets make an american spy movie francise but the answer is no.

You are the only person I have ever spoken to who liked Mission Impossible 3. I have not seen it but everyone else I have spoken to about it has described it as either a mediocre film or a waste of time.
Anyway I don't think the two compare that well as Mission Impossible was originally a TV show and James Bond was originally books and the films in many ways reflect this basic difference.

No. The Mission Impossible movies are based on a late 60's to early 70's TV show that was extremely popular. Because of the cold war, espionage shows were as big then as cop shows are today. There were 4 or 5 in the crew with one, I think Peter Graves as the head. Each of them had a specialty and they worked together to keep the free world well, free from the weekly communist threat. They received their instructions from a reel to reel tape which burnt up in 60 seconds. This was the era of no computers, cell phones or even microwaves. Wireless telephone land lines were also nonexistent.
For you Trekkies, Leonard Nimoy was on it but was added later.
James Bond Movies were each based on books written by a very horny Ian Fleming who from what I recall imagined himself to be as cool an operator as Bond. The movies of this franchise started in the 60's and have continued forward since then.

Basically, that's what Ethan Hunt is from a practical standpoint... the agent that can do everything (except cyber-ops). That's why I've hated the movies, because the essence of the tv series was the complicated plans they ran, and how the team members worked together to accomplish them. The movies are what I call "The Ethan Hunt Show".
Which is why I can't wait for December 5th... 1st season of the tv series out on DVD :)

MI3 is good.
No, not the American James Bond.
That'd go to either 24 (the series) or the Bourne trilogy.
notice how BOTH protagonists' names are also J.B. - a pretty strong indicator, don't you think?

Flint was the closest (James Coburn). The Tom Cruise Ethan Hunt is a joke compared to the original series ,after all they made the hero of the series into the villain of the first MI film !!!

Mission Impossible's premise - at least in the series - used a full team of intelligent agents... and it was their "clever teamwork" that made the pay off and get their targets achieved.
The films lacked that... Film number 1 started with teamwork.. but then everyone died allowing showcase agent number 1... with a bit of teamwork later. 2nd one lacked it alot. 3rd one had some more good teamwork as per the series.
