I downloaded Norton from BT Yahoo. Now I cannot use Internet Explorer 6. I have tried system restore but it seems to have taken over the computer. Many thanks.

Not sure if its the same as we had Norton Internet security installed (from disc). but here goes........ You should be able to add Internet Explorer 6 in to your allowed programs list. However, we found norton slowed our p.c. down so much we uninstalled it and used the Grisoft website to install FREE AVG programme. (No problems so far) If you decide to remove norton, Add/Remove on your p.c. will leave some files etc behind so you will need to go to the Symatic web-site where there were instructions there for the complete removal of various versions. good luck!

Click Start -> Run. Type msconfig.
Goto the startup Tab. Uncheck all pertaining to norton or symantec.
Reboot your PC.
Your Norton Protection will not load when the PC reboots.
Goto Add Remove program and see if you can uninstall it from there.

LOL!!! That's Norton for you. It's the worst crap in the universe. And the same goes for Panda & McAfee.

System Restore SHOULD work!!! Go back to a date before you installed Norton.

If not, the only way is to MANUALLY delete files & folders and then manually editing the REGISTRY. I had to do this to get rid of a Panda AV install that refused to die!!! It took me over an hour!!

And you have to know what you're doing especially for the REGISTRY part, OK??? If not sure, ask for help.

I am sure that btyahoo are trying to gain control of all computers. I just want internet connection and used their home hub suddenly I have a ton of software which I don't want, my Pc has reconfigured and I now have mozilla firefox which is not a problem per se but I did not install it. as for Norton when their security centre started downloading their pop-up blocker, spyware scanners etc I was on hand to stop it but I am still trying to get my PC back to my own config so best of luck to you. I know I haven't helped you much I just wanted you to know that you are not alone!

Most other answers tell you to go through the Start/Control Panel/Remove Programmes method, but before you do you need to make sure that all Norton programmes running in the background are stopped otherwise they will not be removed.

Once you have uninstalled it the add/remove programs field, you need to go into My Computer, select Program Files and delete anything that relates to Norton or Symantec. And if you are brave like me go into Regedit and scroll down everything and delete anything to do with Norton and Symantec. BUT YOU ENTER REGEDIT AT YOUR OWN RISK. I took the lot off and my comp runs a lot better without it.

islandguy is right that norton is useless but SO WRONG in saying panda is crap. if he had trouble with panda it's probably down to an interupted install. i've been using panda for years and have NEVER had any problems with it.... but i guess it's down to personal preference.
