Promise or I'll Think about It?

Which do you say the most?

I am going to have to say I'll think about it is heard more often out of my mouth. I get asked for favors all the time from family and friends. For years I said yes to everything. I ended up getting taken advantage of and being everyones ride, babysitter, and bank.

I have since began trying to stand up for myself and say no on the things that aren't so important....like money for cigerettes or babysitting while they go out and get trashed. But no is hard to say at times so I'll think about it is a good way to really take the time to think on how important it is. Then I will call back and let them know my answer. Some friends know that I'll think about it really means I don't want to so they just take the hint and try to get someone else to do it.

It's not that it's safer to say"i'll think about it" but if you say "I promise" and didn't deliver the more likely the other person gets hurt or disappointed because they were expecting you to do whatever you promised.Saying the other one,on the other hand doens't make them expect a lot and prepares them for whatever you CAN deliver.

I'll think about it...cos promises can put you in a tight spot and I believe they must never be broken once made.

I take my promises very seriously, so I tend to think about it first.
