that the director and producer etc. wanted Winona Ryder for the lead in Steel Magnolias? They ended up going with Julia Roberts beacuse they felt that Winona was too young. Do you know any other actors/actresses that were passed over or turned down

Mickey Rooney was supposed to play the part of Archie Bunker in All in the Family,but he turned it down.
Carrol O'Conner was offered the role of the Skipper in Gilligans' Island,but turned it down. It was then offered to Alan Hale Jr.
Mel Blanc (the voice of Bugs Bunny and countless others) auditioned for the role of Fred Flintstone but was turned down. It was offered to Allan Reed.
Mel also auditioned for the role of Mr. Magoo,but the role went to Jim Backus(the millionaire from Gilligans Island).
