born a female in ireland in 1843 served full tour of duty in the U.S.A.Civil War by keeping her gender hidden. She lived an solitary existence in a 12'x22' house in Saunemin, Illinois. Indianapolis Star ran an article by Mike Conklin of Chicago Tribune in Oct of 2001. The Historical Society was trying to get the house restored and moved to Pontiac Ill.
Would appreciate any updates on this story. Did they get the house restored and moved ? And any information on how to contact those who mwere working on that project. THanks in advance for any help you may be able to gove.

According to a story from ASSOCIATED PRESS
11/11/2006 in the STJtoday "Saunemin Mayor Mike Stoecklin said the house will be moved back to Saunemin by the end of the year, though restoring it will take longer.

There is an interesting piece at the second site which tells how
Cashire was rushed to the hospital after an automobile accident, where doctors made thediscovery that Albert Cashire was a woman.
