I'm just wondering. The last couple of times I had my car in the repair shop, there were (or seemed to be) at least two different things wrong with it. At present it must be about 15 years old now. It's the Dodge Colt I asked about in my two other vehicle related questions.

By the way, if anyone wants me to get a new car, he or she can feel free to give me the money for one.

Usually around 100,000 miles or 7th year. Let's put it this way. For most cars, right after the factory warranty expires. Why? they are the ones who know exactly how long the car will last without any problems.

Well that depends on the up-keep. I just traded in my 1994 Dodge Dakota that I bought new in June of 1995. It had 270,000 miles on it. So, it lasted that long. Some could last for many years and or miles, while some only last for a few of either. Regular maintenance is the key.

Problem for me is, I haven't had to make a car payment in 18 years. I paid in cash when I bought the 1994 Dakota. The 2001 Dakota that I just bought, I had to get it financed.

It is often times about mileage, but if it has low mileage, then it is about years. Personally, my ideal ride would be a car 4-5 years old with 70k-80k on it. That way you can get at least a few years out of it, and should be able to get at least 20-30k miles out of it before something starts happening... If you drive it hard (always accelerate fast, then jam on the brakes) you are going to wear it out a lot faster.)

Buy a motorcycle that is 3 years used, and you won't have to ever worry about car problems as long as you ride a bike.
