how do you replace a shift lever for an automatic transmission?

Generic directions for a column shift: lever is held in place by a tapered pin. Drive it out - replace shift lever and reinstall pin. It's that easy.

Center console shift levers are a bit more complex due to having to disassemble some if not all of the center console. A few clips for the shift cable(s), some wire connections, unbolt it from the floor and reverse for installing new shifter asm.
