My family celebrates the Feast of the Seven Fishes, which is only done on Christmas Eve. It's a collection of 7 different seafood dishes in preparation of the birth of Jesus. Supposed to be a meatless meal as purification of the body. The 7 relates to the seven sacraments of the Catholic Church. Our traditional menu is as follows:
Stuffed Calimari in Tomato Sauce
Fried Smelt
Oyster Shooters
Deep Fried Breaded Oysters
Deep Fried Fish/Shrimp
Linquine with Clam Sauce
Marinated Eel
Baccala
Whiting
And to top it off we have tiramasu for dessert.

Italians have a tradition on Xmas Eve only. It's called the Feast of the 7 Fishes. We prepare 7 kinds of seafood and fish in various ways, like clams, mussels, baccala, squid & octopus, lobster & shrimp. Then, after midnight Mass, we make sausage and peppers.

We always serve alcohol free bubbly fruit juice in our nice wine glasses on Christmas Eve. It is a tradition that the kids look forward to.
